Well, it only took five days, but Brannon finally convinced James to go out in the ocean kayak with him. They launched the boat (i.e. dropped it into the ocean from the dock above), James climbed down the ladder, and they were off on their father/son adventure. The kayak has a clear plexiglass section in the floor between Brannon's legs so James could see the marine life and limestone and coral formations as the boat floated above. James wore his polarized sun glasses that Brannon bought him just for this trip as well as the shark hat he acquired while souvenir shopping yesterday.
After Brannon returned James to dry land, Shirley was inspired to give the kayak a go. She was successful at getting into the boat, but we discovered that the jump seat on this model really is not designed for two full sized adults. There is a second, two person kayak that they could have used, but they decided to call it a day and come back up to the villa.
Otherwise, we spent the day taking a break from being in the sun. All the adults are sunburned in at least one area - Brannon and William have burns on the tops of their feet and Shirley and I have burns on our legs, and my back is a bit tender as well. The kids are all ok though - Madeleine has skipped the whole burning process and just started to tan. James and Charlotte are a little red on their faces, but neither of them are complaining of pain so I think they are in the clear. We plan to spend tomorrow morning at Sapodilla Bay on the beach, so we will be laying the sun protection on thick once again!
Tomorrow is our last full day... We shall see how much fun we can cram into it!
