Last weekend six of our usual tennis group drove down to Horseshoe Bay for a little tennis, rest and relaxation. We arrived (by minivan of course!) just in time for dinner on Friday night. Unbeknownst to us when we booked the trip, there was a USTA tournament at the hotel that weekend - it must be a popular place to hold tournaments since it has 16 courts and you can choose to play on hard court, clay or grass. We lucked out and were able to reserve a hard court for the next morning. We spent the evening after dinner watching the tournament players and exploring the immense grounds of the hotel.
Saturday morning we headed to the courts and spent a few hours playing tennis. Then it was lunch and drinks by the pool until our 3pm spa appointments. I was on my first skinny margarita on the rocks when I discovered a roach in my drink! Let's just say my reaction was loud, physically violent and not very pretty. It immediately brought the manager's attention to our poolside gathering and she handled the situation nicely. All our drinks and food by the pool were taken care of and she switched our dinner reservations to the Yacht Club that evening so she could take care of us there as well. They did a great job of trying to rectify the situation but let's just say I was really ready for my massage at 3pm.
After a few hours at the spa, we headed to one of the other restaurants at the hotel for drinks and appetizers (which were paid for by the spa when we discovered that the whirlpool, sauna and steam room were all not working properly). Notice in the picture that I am not drinking a margarita? I'm not sure when I'll have the courage to try another one again... Dinner at the Yacht Club was wonderful and included a gratuitous round of sparkling wine and deserts. We stayed up late again with "girl talk" and went to bed looking forward to another round of tennis in the morning. We really needed if after all the calories we had consumed during the day!
Sunday morning we played a few hours on the grass courts (in my new tennis outfit ☺) and then headed to the showers to great ready for the drive back. It was an immensely enjoyable weekend and we hope to make it a semi-annual event. I haven't been on a girls trip since college and now I realize how much I NEED it! Thank you to Brannon and his parents for taking care of the kids so I could go.
