White Rock Swim Team

Well, obviously I haven't gotten to the movies of the kids' swim lessons yet... it has been added to the ever expanding "to do" list.

This past Saturday was filled with catching up on a little housework while Brannon was at an alumni meeting for the University of Dallas, then spending some quality time with my little sister. We went for burgers with the family then watched a movie after the kids had gone to bed. Of course Madeleine woke up right at the most suspenseful part - we had to pause the movie multiple times to put her back to bed. I'm sure JM was thinking "... and this is yet another reason not to have kids..." :-)

On Sunday we went to church, brunch, then sailing on White Rock while Cousin Rita watched the kids. This was my first time in Brannon's new sail boat. He has taken it out several times himself with the kids, my brother and my dad, but I had not had a chance to join him until this past weekend. In case you didn't know, they have sail boat races on White Rock Lake every Sunday afternoon... so of course we entered the race. Did I mention this was my first time in the new boat (which is different than the boat I learned to sail on)? We did have an "instructor" with us and she was very helpful explaining the rules of the race and guiding us on the route. What she could not help us with, however, was the sudden and forceful change in wind direction during a turn in the second race. I got caught on the low side of the boat and ended up doing a backwards somersault into the water. Somehow I ended up in the path of the boat and was subsequently hit in the head as it passed over me. Good news: my hat floats. Thanks to my parents for all the swim lessons - they came in handy as I treaded water while Brannon did a "man over board" maneuver to come back to get me. If you ever buy a boat, make sure there is a swim ladder on the back - they are very handy in getting back into the boat from the water. I did not have to have what little dignity I had left ripped from me as someone struggled to pull me back into the boat. Instead I simply climbed, looking very much like a wet dog, back into the boat. I am now a member of what they call the "White Rock Swim Team." We were done racing for the day.

The kids, the dog, and I will be leaving tomorrow evening for a few days at the lake with Mom and Dad. Brannon will be joining us on Friday and JM will be driving in on Saturday. Tomorrow looks like this: workout at the gym 9am, pick housekeeper up at 10am, lunch then Little Gym at 12:30, finish the laundry and pack for the lake, housekeeper leaves at 5pm, Kindermusik at 5:15, leave for lake after that. I am exhausted just typing it... wish me luck!
