Leavenworth was the closest town to the lodge so we made a couple of trips into town for dining and shopping. The town has a Bavarian theme and is really picturesque - we just missed the Oktoberfrest celebrations, but they were starting to decorate for Christmas while we were there. We ate at two German restaurants (of course!) while we were there. One was a more traditional restaurant while the other was a beer garden with all the tables outside. The weather was chilly - in the 50s/low 60s during the day. It was perfect for walking around town and exploring a bit.
