First Week of Summer

The kids have been busy their first week of summer. They've been attending various camps and having a blast!

Madeleine started JRDECATS, a Catholic academic camp for gifted students. She is taking 4 classes: Crochet Critters, Gadget Girls, Summer FUNshine and We Mean Bu$iness. She is excited to learn how to crochet various animals (hopefully a horse!) and in Gadget Girls they have been busy building a balloon powered car and now a rocket of some kind. In Summer FUNshine they are playing various team building games outside that involve lots of water and mess. In We Mean Bu$iness, she has come up with a product to sell (animals made out of pipe cleaners), a name for her group's business, created marketing materials, and started the manufacturing process. Next week the group will be selling their products to the rest of the camp.

James has been at sailing camp on White Rock Lake all week. He is loving it! This is his second year to do this camp and he was excited to make the Intermediate Class this year. Yesterday he lead his group down the lake (i.e. He was the fastest, which is always important in our house 😉).

Charlotte attended Vacation Bible Camp at CTK in the mornings this week and an art camp at Art Stop in the afternoons. She has absolutely loved both!! She has come home each day with all the songs and dance moves they learned at VBC and has great stories about the bible lessons they learned and the crafts they did. She has also loved doing art camp with her friends Audrey and Caroline. And her kindergarten teachers aide from CKS is leading the art camp, so she has been surrounded by familiar faces! All of her camp instructors have mentioned how much they enjoy having Charlotte at camp - she is full of a joyful energy and loves expressing herself in funny ways.

I've finally gotten back into a regular running schedule this week now that my plantar fasciitis is finally feeling better. I had to stop running completely for three months and have slowly been working my way up to a regular schedule. Madeleine has also been joining me on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings for a short walk/run workout before we get ready to leave for camps. I think she enjoys the time she has me just to herself and I'm glad she feels a sense of accomplishment at having run 2 miles before her day really begins! Hopefully it will help instill in her a life long relationship with exercise.

I've also been volunteering as Dock Parent during James' sailing camp. Which means I get to hang out at the dock with my mobile office and enjoy the great weather we've been having. If one of the kids needs to come off the water while the class is still going, I'm at the dock to watch them and help out. Today Charlotte joined me since VBC is over, so we painted nails and worked on our summer school work. It's been a great week!
