Spring Break Camping Day 3
Saturday was our last full day at the campsite. I made a breakfast fire in honor of my brother John and the kids helped with making breakfast. We went on a canoe ride around the lake and played more games by the travel trailer. Later that afternoon we went into Smithville for a little antique shopping and exploring the train park and depot. Afterwards, we attended Mass at St. Paul's. We then drove to Bastrop so Brannon could get his bbq fix. We left as early as we could on Sunday morning (which turned out to be about noon) for the drive back to Dallas. The kids arrived home dirty and exhausted, so I'd say they had a good time.

Spring Break Camping Day 1
Even though I've been really busy with tax season, Brannon convinced me we should go camping the latter half of spring break this year. We arrived late Wednesday evening at McKinney Falls State Park, near Austin. When we went to check in at the park office on Thursday morning, we discovered that Brannon had mistakenly made the reservation for only one night. And with it being spring break week and the South by Southwest festival being this week in Austin, all the state parks anywhere close by were booked. I called the state park reservation line to try and find a vacancy somewhere between Austin and Dallas, but did not have any luck with them. Finally I started calling parks directly and found the last remaining spot at Buescher State Park, only 36 miles away. Whew! We went for a hike around the falls and then checked out of McKinney Falls State Park and headed northeast to Buescher State Park, right outside of Bastrop, Texas. And it turns out that we like this campsite even better - it is more secluded and has more room for the kids to roam. We shall see how we like the rest of the part once we have had a chance to explore it more.

New Toy
Brannon bought me a new toy - A "non-mom" car. We got a great deal on a low mileage, blue, Mini Cooper S convertible with a manual transmission. But don't worry, he is enjoying it too. He took all three kids to run errands in it last Saturday morning.
