Snow Day
We've definitely had some cold weather this week! The kids did not have school on Monday or Tuesday due to the snow/ice. They had fun playing outside - the cold didn't seem to bother them a bit!

Chef Madeleine
Madeleine went to cooking camp this summer and has started showing an interest in helping cook at home. She received a cookbook from her grandmother for Valentine's Day this year and has been begging try some of the recipes. Last night she wanted to make pasta, so I gave her a recipe for homemade marinara sauce. She prepared the sauce, boiled the pasta and made garlic bread. It was delicious!!
Charlotte's TKD Debut
Yesterday was "bring a friend day" at taekwondo, so Charlotte attended a class with James. She loved it!! She won a medal in a kicking contest for fastest kicks and even broke a board with a punch. James got to show off his taekwondo skills by breaking a board with a flying kick. I'm guessing Charlotte will start lessons either this summer or in the fall.
Academic Fair
M and J participated in this year's St. Patrick's Academic Fair - M competed in mental math and J in written math. Each was one of four kids chosen from their grade to represent CKS in their subject. J had a 6th place finish but M did not place. She was disappointed, but she did her best and that is all we ask of them. She was home sick with strep the two days before the competition, so that may have had some effect on her performance. Hopefully she will not get discouraged and will try again next year. We are proud of them for being chosen and giving it their best effort!!

New Shoes
Mama has a new pair of running shoes! Now that my long runs are getting over 10 miles again, my running coach suggested I get a new pair with more padding and a larger toe box to help with sore feet and toes. We will be doing an 11 mile run this weekend and increasing it by 1 mile every weekend until we hit 13, then we will back down to around 9 miles the weekend before our next race - the Dallas Rock'n Roll Half Marathon on March 22nd. I'll be doing two 5 mile runs during the week and cross training at least two other days like normal. My other shoes have only 245 miles on them (my running app lets you track mileage on your shoes) so I should be able to use those for my short runs and make my new shoes last longer. I am feeling so blessed to be in this healthy and in shape at 37!

Fun at the Lake
We invited some friends down to the Lakehouse this weekend. 12 kids and 8 adults. We had a blast and can't wait to do it again!
Valentine's Day
The kids picked out their Valentine's Day gifts for their class this year:

We went on a double date this weekend with the Nevitts. A little trap shooting followed by some really yummy Italian food. Fun times!

My 1st 15k
My friend Mandi and I ran 10 miles this morning. The race was 9.3 miles, so we ran an extra 0.7 to warm up and hit our training goal for the weekend. Next race: the Rock N Roll half marathon in March.

February
Um... What happened to January? Man, that went by fast! Here's what we've been up to the first four days of February:
James posed for a profile pic for a reading log app I'm trying. He is participating in a reading contest for taekwondo. The kids who reads the most pages between Feb 1 - April 15 gets to wear a blue uniform.
Charlotte celebrated her "half birthday"at school since she never gets to celebrate her actual birthday. She did the Montessori candle ceremony and served snacks (chocolate chip muffins - her request) to her classmates.
Apparently her "half birthday" was a big day - she fell asleep in the car on the way home from school. Yes, Baby Blue went through carpool.
Christine, Anne and I have already been at work planning the school auction for 2016. We've even created a shared calendar to keep track of our meetings. Right now we are focused on finding a venue - thinking we might shake it up a little in 2016!
My First Relay
Just realized that this never posted!! So here is it, hopefully better late than never:
Last Sunday (back in December) four of my friends and I each ran a leg of the Dallas marathon. We were Team Marga-Relay-Ville and finished with an average pace of 10:21. I ran the longest leg - 6.25 miles - which was the second leg of the relay. Thanks to our teammate Mandi, we had tickets to get into the RunOn event at Eddie Dean's so we had access to real bathrooms (not porta-potties!), food and drink, and a warm, dry place to get ready before the race and recover afterwards. I would definitely spend the money on that again!! It turned into a cold and rainy morning. Despite the weather though, we had a great time.
