Madeleine's First Day of Kindergarten

It has been a very stressful week for this mommy! Madeleine lost her first tooth on Sunday and then she started kindergarten just a few days later. My nerves are still recovering... she, on the other hand, handled everything just great! The school did a fantastic job of getting the kids acclimated to their new environment by having a "Getting to Know You" program on the previous Friday and then a "Round Up" program on that Sunday. By the time she had started school on Wednesday, she had met her teacher and seen her classroom several times. She had also had a tour of the school, including the cafeteria, library, church, school office, and nurse's office. It also helps that she has several old friends in her class. Last week was just three half days of school - tomorrow is her first full day. 7:40am to 3:15pm Wish us luck!

Madeleine Lost Her First Tooth!

Our little girl is growing up! On Sunday, August 14th Madeleine noticed that one of her front bottom teeth was loose. She wiggled it and wiggled it and couldn't leave it alone all afternoon. That evening, it started to bleed a little and she started to freak out: "Pull it! Pull it! Pull it Mommy!" In case you haven't heard, I don't do so well with blood. That is why I married a doctor. I was too chicken to try to pull it, so I said "Go find your Daddy." It turns out he doesn't do teeth either. So she kept wiggling it and wiggling it until it finally came out. She was so proud of herself! We cleaned it and put it in a ziplock bag to put under her pillow that night. She was so proud of her tooth though that I told her she could save the tooth for a little while if she wanted to, and put it under her pillow another night for the Tooth Fairy. She thought that was a good idea and set the tooth on her dresser so the Tooth Fairy wouldn't be confused and try to take the tooth that night. However, she must have reconsidered the possible monetary gain because when I went to check on her later that night, the tooth was no longer on the dresser, but under her pillow. In the morning she discovered that the Tooth Fairy had left her $5 for her first tooth.
